March 28, 2018 - Suggested Reading 1 Kings 18 – for Mar 30th’s Good Friday service message on Nehemiah 9:26 at 10AM

“Haven’t you heard, my lord, what I did while Jezebel was killing the prophets of the LORD? I hid a hundred of the LORD’s prophets in two caves, fifty in each, and supplied them with food and water.”
1 Kings 18:13 (NIV)

We can see from this account in 1 Kings 18 that God’s people love life, and will not spend their lives foolishly, but will risk their lives as God requires.
Elijah will soon flee from Jezebel, but in this instance God has told him to show himself to Ahab, and so he approaches Obadiah to arrange a meeting. Obadiah is not anxious to die foolishly, so he gets a promise from Elijah that he will present himself to Ahab, before Obadiah will carry out his task. In this back and forth we are told for the second time that Jezebel has been killing the
prophets of the LORD.
Elijah typified the purpose of a prophet, for his mission was to turn the hearts of the people back to their God. This is the purpose of every true prophet of God- they speak the Words of God to God’s people, for the purpose of heart change. Desiring that the people will turn from their false worship, their wickedness and serve the LORD God and the LORD God only. Jezebel is acting on behalf of Satan by killing the prophets of the LORD, and replacing them with prophets of Baal.
Satan failed here, but his plan didn’t change for he repeated it with Christ and then with
Christ’s apostles.
Same plan, same enemy and praise God the same result for Satan- FAILURE!
