March 26, 2018 - Suggested Reading 2 Corinthians 3 - for March 25th message on Nehemiah 9:32-38 in 2nd Service

“He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant—not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.”

Are we competent as ministers of a new covenant.
Many people don’t like the word competent, for it requires a judgement, and it involves a comparison of work. As long as I try my best we say- that is the most important thing.
It is a good thing we have sports, for it is the last place in our peaceful little shire that we hobbits have to remind us of the truth that competence matters more than trying our best.
You may say well John I am not a minister - and my response is that you most certainly are.
You minister the new covenant to yourself and you minister the new covenant to your loved ones and friends. So the question stands are you competent?
This verse contains the test of competency if you are willing to compare your work to the verse.
Are you all about the letter? - rules rules rules
Or are you all about the Spirit? submission surrender worship
The great truth in this verse is that God is the One who makes us competent
Submit to Him
Surrender to Him
Live a life of worship to Him
Forget the lie of "as long as you tried your best"
Become COMPETENT
