March 19, 2018 - Suggested Reading 2nd Service Romans 9

“What if God, although choosing to show his wrath and make his power known, bore with great patience the objects of his wrath—prepared for destruction?”

Romans 9 records that Paul has great sorrow in his heart over the state of the Jewish people. His attitude should be every Christian’s attitude, though it seems that our Christian ancestry is filled with examples of hatred towards the Jews. It is crazy that the very people (Christian Gentiles) who have benefited the most by the Jewish rejection of their Messiah should have any hatred for the Jews. If they had not rejected Christ, we Gentiles would not have had the opportunity to be declared righteous by believing the promise of God revealed in His Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. But Christians throughout the ages have ‘pretended’ to honour the Lord by despising the Jews. I say ‘pretended’- for the attitude of despising Jews is behaviour more befitting children of satan then behaviour befitting the children of the God who deals with the Jews with great patience, for His glory.
Will I be like my ancestors today?
Or will I draw near to Christ and be like my heavenly Father today?
