March 20, 2018 - Suggested Reading 2nd Service Deuteronomy 7

“Know therefore that the LORD your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments.”

Two dear ladies of Parkdale left their husbands and went to be with our Lord early this year. We miss both Alice and Joyce as a church family, but their husband's Norm and Mel miss their wives more then we can ever know. What a wonderful example to all of us of 2 ladies who kept their covenant of love with their husbands! The best among us keep their covenant of love for their entire married lives, which is their generation. Yet many marriages break apart because it takes both people in the marriage to keep a covenant of love together.
Moses declares that the LORD is God and is not like us- He not only can keep His covenant of love with one generation, He will keep it with a thousand generations.
This chapter reminds the Israelites that the covenant of love is supposed to work both ways- that they are to obey what is commanded (love from us to God) and God will in return love them. It is a little sad reading this chapter and knowing the rest of the story, knowing that these people will generation after generation turn from God, and incur His wrath. At the same time, it is an amazing testament to our God’s character, to make this covenant of love, knowing they would fail, and planning all along to fulfill both sides of this covenant.
SO not only will the LORD our God keep His side of the covenant of love for a thousand generations - He will also keep our side of the covenant!
What an awesome God- what a wonderful Saviour!
May we love(obey) Him with all we have today out of hearts full of thanks.
