March 6, 2018 - Suggested Reading 2nd Service Genesis 17

“You are the LORD God, who chose Abram and brought him out of Ur of the Chaldeans and named him Abraham.”
Nehemiah 9:7 (NIV)

Abraham – for God will make you the father of many nations.
We shudder a bit as we read Genesis 17 which contains the covenant of circumcision, and yet a little closer look shows us a wonderful God who is faithful, keeping His promises to individuals.
God chose Abram at age 75 out of all the people on the face of the earth, and asked him to leave his country, his people and his father’s household, and move to Canaan.
The LORD appeared to him at age 99 and changed his name to reflect the future that God would bring into reality through the womb of Abraham’s wife, whose name would be changed to Sarah to reflect the future that God would bring into reality for her.
As part of His new covenant with us through His Son Jesus Christ, God has given us a new name. This name no doubt reflects the future that God will bring into reality for us – what a blessed thought – that God has a future in mind for us that will become reality.
Abraham didn’t waste any time- “that very day”!
May we not waste any time today doing our part in seeing our future become reality.
"O Lord help me with my unbelief!"
