March 29, 2018 - Suggested Reading Romans 6 – for Apr 1st’s Easter message on 1 Corinthians 7:14 in the 1st service

“For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin—.”
Romans 6:6 (NIV)

At Parkdale, we have had a wonderful illustration of the truth contained in Romans 6 on our stage since the first Sunday of Lent. This little cross with slips of paper containing sins that individuals wrote down and fastened to the cross illustrates for all of us, the truth that if we are united with Christ, then our old self died with Him on that cross. If we want to be free from the sin that plagues us, from the chains that bind us, all we need to do is take them to the Lord at the cross, and seek His forgiveness, and we will be washed and our righteousness restored. You may think- that’s great but then I have to get up and live my life, and that is where the issue is - in the living of my life. Dear child of God read Romans 6 and let the truth of the resurrection soak into your bones. If we died with Christ, we believe we will also live with Him. This refers to more than life after death for the subject here is death while we are living. This means life with Christ now while we are living. Count yourself dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus. We are free - free not to sin - free to live for God, bringing Him glory and having His Spirit change us into His image little by little each day as we bring our sins to the cross.
