Nov 14, 2017- Suggested Reading 2nd Service Psalm 122

“Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: “May those who love you be secure.”

SECURITY PEACE FAMILY FRIENDS the LORD our God

The city of God is the place where all of these come together. The city of God is Jerusalem, the place where the tribes of Israel gather according to the statute given to them in Exodus 23:17. It is a walled city, with fortified gates, a city with houses built close together, a city where justice is dispensed from the throne of David. But most of all it is the place where the house of the LORD is located. The God who created the heavens and the earth lowered Himself to the ground and dwelt among humans. This house of God is called the temple of God, it is a place of forgiveness and fellowship and worship, a place to praise the name of the LORD. You would think there would be need to pray for peace for a place such as this, yet that is the point of this psalm. Pray for peace- peace is so much more than the absence of conflict, it is people living in such a way that mutual benefit comes to all. Verse 6 makes you think that the prayer is for a peace with the enemies around Jerusalem, but verse 7 indicates peace is needed within the walls, that there is strife with the city. As we gather in Parkdale, the LORD’s house of fellowship and worship for us in this age of grace, praising the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, let us remember to pray for peace within our walls. Let us pray for the sake of our family and friends and let us remember not to stop with prayer, but to move into the action of the psalmist- the action of seeking the prosperity of our local church- for the sake of the Presence of the LORD in our midst.
