Romans 6

"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in
Christ Jesus our Lord."
{Romans 6:23} (NIV 1984)

Sin brings death. It always has and it always will. How do we get so deceived that we think we can sin as Christians without consequences? Do we actually think that our Heavenly Father, who is a Holy God, who dwells within us, ignores our sin? Do we think that the Holy Spirit’s presence in our lives is like a get out of jail card that allows us to escape consequences of our sin?

The beginning of Romans 6 deals with Christians being dead to sin and ends with a warning that sin brings death. We need to believe this! Our gossip, our rage, our greed, our envy, our pride, our lust, all these and other sins bring death into our lives, and into our loved ones’ lives.

Oh friend, Jesus died and rose again so that we could be free of sin. The Holy Spirit entered us and cleansed us; His purpose is to sanctify us, to bring us into a life lived by faith in Christ, through the grace of God. This is His gift to us! Accept His gift; live for Him today. Choose life not death.

  1. Thanks for this reminder, John. It's so easy to see the death and destruction that sin brings in other peoples lives and to ignore the sin in my own life. I need to truly believe that my own sin is of great consequence. Thanks for taking the time to post these thoughtful and challenging things for us to reflect on!
