Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you
come into your kingdom”.
{Luke 23:42} (NIV 1984)
I cannot
imagine the depth of despair that our Lord was in as He hung on the cross. His
earthly enemies surrounded Him. His spiritual enemies surrounded Him. His body
was dying, pain was doing what pain does to a human. He could hear the mocking
cries, as they attacked His trust in God. Then out of all the noise He heard
these words; words of faith, words of repentance. Precious words. Words of a
human who knew that he deserved death, who knew that Jesus deserved life. This
man knew that Jesus was the King. This man knew that Jesus was the Son of God.
What a gift the Father gave His Son, on the cross! A human- a person – a sinner
– by faith entered the kingdom of God through God’s Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.
O Father may you, on this Good Friday, give the gift of faith to many, as they
consider the death of your Beloved Son.
