Psalm 23

"The words of the wise are like goads, their collected sayings like firmly embedded nails—given by one Shepherd."
{Ecclesiastes 12:11} (NIV 1984)

God’s Word was written by dozens of people over a span of 1,500 years, out of very different cultures. We read it and sometimes wonder, 'how can this be true and that also be true?'
In the books of wisdom, written and compiled by Solomon, we have seemingly contradictory statements back to back. We hear people arguing about whether we should listen to Jesus or to Paul, as if they disagree.

This verse is like a breath of fresh air in our face. There is only one Author of the Word of God. These books were written by one Shepherd! They were written for His sheep. His purpose is to lead us into places where our souls can be restored. His purpose is to guide us in paths of righteousness. His purpose is to comfort us with His presence. His purpose is to feed us in the presence of our enemies. His purpose is to bring the Spirit’s blessing into our life. His purpose is to see goodness and mercy follow us. His purpose is to bring us into life everlasting.

Oh Heavenly Father, may Your words be driven deep into our hearts and minds, that we may have life.
