Psalm 22

There are three things that are stately in their stride, four that move with stately bearing: a lion, mighty among beasts, who retreats before nothing; a strutting rooster, a he-goat, and a king with his army around him.
{Proverbs 30:29-31} (NIV 1984)

A king with his army around him carries himself with confidence and a touch of arrogance. Our King, the King of Kings, had no army around Him as He walked toward His death. He staggered instead of swaggered. He walked as a prisoner instead of a conqueror. No bounce in His step; He stumbled and fell.
If we consider this proverb, we must say that our Lord behaved more like a lion, than an earthly king. The lion will retreat from nothing. Our Lord had set His face towards His death, and nothing was going to turn Him away. Blessed be His Name! Praise Him, the Lion of Judah! He went to His death as a Lamb. He went alone, trusting in His heavenly Father to bring Him back from the grave. The One with the heart of a lion, faced our greatest enemy-death itself- by Himself!
