of the Mighty One of Jacob, because of the Shepherd,
the Rock of Israel..."

One of the
Names of God is Shepherd. In this passage in Genesis, Jacob gives the Shepherd credit for
Joseph’s wellbeing. Joseph was not a lost sheep. Joseph was a healthy, well
behaved sheep. He didn’t wander from the Shepherd’s side; he stayed close to
the Shepherd. Yet the Shepherd took him away from the flock, led him into
danger, allowed Joseph to be mistreated, never left him, protected him, lifted
him up to great heights, and blessed him by saving the flock through him.
Joseph trusted his Shepherd, and served Him.
May we this day know that God is
our Shepherd. May we trust Him in spite of the suffering in our lives. May we
serve Him.
