Nov 22, 2017- Suggested Reading 1st Service Ezekiel 17

“This is what the Sovereign LORD says: I myself will take a shoot from the very top of a cedar and plant it; I will break off a tender sprig from its topmost shoots and plant it on a high and lofty mountain.”
Ezekiel 17:22 (NIV)

Not only is the LORD the Creator and Sustainer of all life on earth- according to Ezekiel 17 our God is Sovereign in the affairs of all the nations of the earth. The LORD speaks thru His prophet Ezekiel a word of judgement against a king of Judah who would not obey the LORD’s Word thru Jeremiah and pray for the prosperity of Babylon where God had ordained His people to thrive during the exile. This judgement comes in a horticultural metaphor of a shoot and a transplanting and tremendous growth, and then a withering and the plucking up of the plant. The first part of Ezekiel 17 is history to us- it has happened exactly as the LORD spoke it - and so the prophecy of verse 22 and 23 bring great hope. These verses point to the kingdom of our Lord Jesus Christ and the strength of the arm and the hand of the Sovereign LORD who will make His kingdom grow and thrive. Surely our Lord spoke out of Ezekiel 17 when He taught about the kingdom of God recorded in Mark 4:30-32!
