Nov 20, 2017- Suggested Reading 1st Service Genesis 11

“Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves; otherwise we will be scattered over the face of the whole earth.”

In this chapter we have the record of human societies after the flood, and specifically the ancestry of Abram and Sarah. Humans spoke the same language until God in judgement confused our tongues and we have been separated by language ever since. Despite the best efforts of humans- we have not been able to put back together what God has split apart- because He is AWESOME in POWER! As Canadians, we have first hand knowledge of the issues of different languages in our ongoing French/English dance. It amazes me how similar humans are in 2017 to humans who lived thousands of years ago. Not only are we still separated by language, but we are still engaged in building cities and towers across this globe. How much energy do we spend building human homes, cities, towers, societies? We are builders by nature, and what an opportunity we have been given by God to be involved in building God’s society, God’s city, God’s tower! How about we ease back a little on the human building and put more of our energies into building God’s kingdom! A kingdom that will never perish, a city that will last forever, what an opportunity you have today- get involved- be a co-worker with God- build!
