“So they will put
my name on the Israelites, and I will bless them.”
{Numbers 7:27} (NIV1984)
We could
be careless and miss the truth about the nature of God in this benediction. The
Holy Trinity is revealed in this blessing. Three times the priests bless the
Israelites with YHWH’s name. Three times, YHWH’s name is “put” on His people.
In Isaiah’s vision, the cherubim cry Holy, Holy, Holy is the LORD Almighty.
Our risen Lord Jesus commands us to baptize in the name of the Father, the
Son and the Holy Spirit. The LORD is One (Dt 6:4). One Name for three
Persons. The Name of the LORD is a strong tower, it is a place of refuge, it is
a seal of ownership, it is above every name, and every knee shall bow before
this Name. Oh friend, It is the only name given under heaven given to men by
which we can be saved (Acts 4:12) and everyone who calls on the
name of the Lord will be saved (Rom 10:13).
Friend, this is not
superstition! This is the truth of blessing. When we pray that the Lord would
bless someone, keep them, be gracious to them and turn His face towards them,
giving them peace, we are praying for their salvation. Our Lord taught us to
pray, so that we might be blessed by God. This prayer of Aaron achieves the
same result of being blessed by the LORD Almighty! Oh friend, whom will we
bless today?
