"...The Lord turn his face toward you and give
you peace.”
{Numbers 6:26} (NIV1984)
The third
blessing spoken to God’s people, once again proceeds from the LORD and involves
His ‘face’ turning towards us. This figure of language is so easy for us to
understand. Who has not had someone angry enough with us that they refuse to
look at us? Your co-worker, your teacher, your coach, your family member, even
your spouse. You know something is wrong, you know that there is a problem in
your relationship, but when they will turn and look square at you, their face
is turned towards you and you can tell by the expression on the face, even the
set of the jaw and forehead, that things are not right between you.
The grace of
our Lord, our Heavenly Father, He forgives our sin. He turns His face towards
us and gives us peace. A peace that will never pass away, a peace that is
beyond understanding, a peace that only can come from our Creator.
Keith Green
knew the truth of this blessing and penned these words that have blessed so
many:
O Lord,
you’re beautiful,
your face
is all I see,
for when
your eyes are on this child,
your grace
abounds to me.
{O Lord, You're Beautiful, Keith Green, 1980}
O friend
do you know the truth of this blessing? Do you know the peace of the LORD in
your life? Whom can we bless with these words this day?
