“Tell Aaron and his
sons, ‘This is how you are to bless the Israelites. Say to them..."
{Numbers 6:23} (NIV1984)
The
priests of Israel, Aaron and his sons, were told to bless the Israelites by
speaking to them some of the most beautiful words ever spoken. We will examine
these words this week, but before we do, let us pause and consider, do we have
anyone in our lives we should bless? These men were priests of YHWH among a
holy nation; so we also (men and women) are priests of YHWH among a holy nation
(1 Pt 2:9). These men were given ministry responsibilities by God over people
in God’s house; so we also have been given ministry gifts by God, and have the
responsibility to use them in God’s house (Ro 12:4-8). Even beyond God’s house,
they and we, are both called to bless the nations (Ga 3:8). Furthermore, we are
told that it was by faith that Isaac and Jacob blessed their children (Heb
11:20,21), and we are that generation who are called to live our lives by faith
(Ga 2:20). So what about it? How can we bless our children with words?
How can we bless those individuals at Parkdale with words? How can we bless
those people around us with words? May the Lord Himself give us wisdom and
direct us in our priestly duties.
