Ecclesiastes 5:10-18

"Then I realized that it is good and proper for a man to eat and drink, and to find satisfaction in his toilsome labor under the sun during the few days of life God has given him—for this is his lot."
{Ecclesiastes 5:18} (NIV1984)

Are you discouraged this morning? Feeling as if there is no way you will ever get your work done? Are you feeling insignificant? Feeling as if no one would notice if you disappeared? It may be hard for us to believe, but these verses teach us that Solomon was discouraged and that he felt insignificant. This is the wisest and richest man to ever have lived, and yet he was discouraged as he thought about how short his life was, and how much work it was to live those few years, for no gain. 'Naked I come into the world and naked I leave. I gain nothing!' (Eccl.5:15) Yet, Solomon realized that his life (as ours is) is a gift from God. That God Himself has given us our days and our toil, and we are blessed if we find a way to find satisfaction in our toil.

Friend, commit this day unto the LORD. Realize, that we live our lives on a stage in front of Him. Only the things we do for Christ will last. May we serve Him today, in whatever it is we are doing. May we do it to His honour, and to His glory, until He comes to take us home. Come Lord Jesus, Come!
