1 Timothy 6:3-10

 "For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs."
{1 Timothy 6:10} (NIV1984)

Money itself is not bad. Money is a shelter (Eccl 7:12). It provides housing, food, clothing, transportation, gifts, healthcare, all sorts of good things. God Himself gives us our ability to produce wealth (Dt 8:18) as a sign of our special relationship with Him. Nowhere in the Bible can we find teaching that God wants us to be poor. Nowhere in the Bible can we find teaching that God wants us rich. God is not concerned about whether or not we are rich or poor. He is concerned about whom we love! We are to love Him and Him alone, we are to serve Him and Him alone.

This verse teaches that people who “love” money, are eager for money. That eagerness or strong desire for money is an enemy of our faith in the Lord Jesus and will bring much grief into our lives. This is why our Lord warns us about the love of money, He desires the best for us, He desires to prosper us and not to harm us (Jer 29:11).

So friend, how about it? Right now, in this moment of time answer this question honestly: Which am I more eager for? The manifest presence of the Lord Jesus in my life, or more money in my pocket?

"Search me, O God, and know my heart;
    test me and know my anxious thoughts."
Psalm 139:23
