Ecclesiastes 2:1-11

"Yet when I surveyed all that my hands had done and what I had toiled to achieve, everything was meaningless, a chasing after the wind;
    nothing was gained under the sun."
 {Ecclesiastes 2:11}  (NIV1984

Pleasure, laughter, wine, building projects, gardening, landscaping, fruit farming, employees, herds, flocks, money, treasure, hiring professional musicians, and a large harem. Solomon was busy! This man accomplished many things and did them big! Most of us are limited to only working on a few of these things in our life. Imagine the work, the energy, the mind power, the toil involved in what Solomon accomplished. We would do well to listen to his words: all of it was meaningless, nothing was gained. Perhaps we wonder how that could be true. Friend, what Solomon is teaching us, what the Bible teaches us, is that everything we do for ourselves, with our own strength is meaningless. Only those things we do for our Lord Jesus, and in His strength, has any lasting meaning or any gain for us.  It is only His kingdom that will last, everything else will burn up. May we learn from Solomon and examine where our energies, money and mind power are focused. May we be true servants of the Most High God this day. May we do something today that is meaningful, something that builds His kingdom!
