Acts 7:48-60

"Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” And they divided up his clothes by casting lots."
{Luke 23:34}  (NIV1984)

I wonder if we believe that God answers this prayer of His Son? Here He is dying in obedience to His Father, watching His enemies gamble over His clothes, and He prays that God would forgive them for killing Him. This is love! This is perfect love!

We look at this text and marvel at the person of Jesus; the person of the Son of God, the person who is love. Oh, that we may know the width, the height and the depths of this love. Yet, do we believe that God answered His Son’s prayer? Friend, believe it, God forgave those men. How could He not? The gospel indicates that the centurion believed and was saved, we will know the stories of the rest of them one day. Imagine sitting in heaven beside a roman who crucified our Lord.

We can pray for our enemies because our Lord did and Stephen did. We can do this because Jesus is alive in us, and we should do this, if we are His disciples.
Father, forgive them… bless them Father.
