Matthew 6:1-18

"…Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you."
{Matthew 6:6b} (NIV1984)

Three times our Lord tells us that our Father in heaven will reward us. Three different activities are described; giving, praying and fasting. Each one of them is an act of righteousness. Our Lord tells us plainly that our Father in heaven, who sees us do these things, will reward us. He doesn’t describe the reward, but to receive a reward is to be in God’s favour. How could this be anything but good for us and our loved ones?

We receive a reward from others when we compete. We get 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and so on. We receive a reward from the work of our hands. We enjoy the homes that we build, the food that we prepare, and the family that we work so hard on. But these rewards pale in comparison to our dad rewarding us for something he is pleased that we did. We have his favour; we have pleased him. How many of us long to be rewarded by our earthly father? Just think for a moment on what our Lord has told us. We will please our heavenly Father; we will have His favour when we give, pray and fast.
O friend, seek His favour today. Please your heavenly Father today, and know the blessedness of His reward!
