Acts 2:1-13

“I have come to bring fire on the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled! But I have a baptism to undergo, and how distressed I am until it is completed!”
{Luke 12:49,50} (NIV1984)

These words of our Lord are so clear. He must go through a distressful baptism, before a fire can be started on earth. His baptism is one of suffering, death, burial and resurrection. After He had completed that journey, He stayed on earth for forty days, then ascended to heaven and sent the fire to the earth. This fire is the promised Holy Spirit. The Spirit came with the sound of the wind and the appearance of fire. The Lord Jesus longed for this day; the day that the fire from heaven began to burn in the hearts of humans. The manifest presence of God, the Creator of heaven and earth resides inside of humans. WOW! Who could have thought that God Himself, would take up residence in sinful humans? Who would have thought that the sanctifying fire from heaven that consumes sin would enter us, and burn away at the sin that entangles our hearts? Praise God for His fire inside of us! Praise Jesus for His willingness to go through that baptism! Praise the Holy Spirit for His faithfulness and persistence in rooting out sin in our lives!

May the fire of God burn deep in my heart today.

Burn Spirit, burn! (Isaiah 4:4 {NIV} 'spirit of fire', {KJV} 'spirit of burning')
