"For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given, and
the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful
Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."
{Isaiah 9:6} (NIV1984)
Our
fathers leave us. It isn’t their fault; it is just that they are human and
death comes to all humans. Some leave us abruptly, cut off before their time,
and there is a tremendous need in their children that no one can fill. Some
leave us gradually. We watch them grow old, and our roles slowly change, so
that we care for them. When they leave, it is not so abrupt, but there is still
this need in the heart of their children, that no one else can fill.
What a
blessing it is for us to consider this verse about our Lord. One of the Names
of Christ is Everlasting Father, and it clearly identifies the Lord Jesus
Christ as God Himself, one of the persons of the Holy Trinity. God will never
grow old. He will not die. His care for us and over us will extend forever,
with no end. There is no selfishness in our Heavenly Father, no regret, no
tiredness, no bitterness, no sharp words, no lack of strength.
No, our Heavenly
Father is the same today as He was yesterday, and He will be the same forever.
His love for us will not waver; His angels are sent to minister to our needs,
and He promises that He will never leave us nor forsake us. Friend be
encouraged today, you have a Heavenly Father, and Everlasting Heavenly Father.
Praise His holy name!
