Luke 1:35-45 & 57-67

"In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express."
{Romans 8:25} (NIV1984)

The Christmas story reminds us of the truth of our dependence upon the Holy Spirit. All that we are, all that we have, and all that we will be hinges on the Holy Spirit! The Holy Spirit entered Mary’s womb and the Son of God was conceived. The Holy Spirit entered Elizabeth’s womb and filled the little fetus named John, so that he leaped with joy. The Holy Spirit filled Elizabeth and caused her to speak blessings to Mary and the Lord Jesus. The Holy Spirit filled Zechariah and caused him to speak blessings upon his son John and praise to our wonderful God.

Paul teaches us in Romans 8 the importance of the Holy Spirit to our lives as Christians. In verse 25, he emphasizes the Spirit’s role in our prayer lives. Do we consider this as we approach God in prayer? Shouldn’t we commit our prayers to the Spirit and ask Him to guide us as we pray? The Spirit not only cleanses us and sanctifies us, He intercedes for us and helps us pray in accordance with God’s will.

Heavenly Father, thank you for sending your Spirit so many years ago to proclaim the truth of Christmas, and thank you for leaving your Spirit here until your work is done.

Thank you oh my Father,
For giving us Your Son,
And leaving Your Spirit,
'Til the work on Earth is done.
