1 Kings 19:7-18

"Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.”
{Isaiah 30:21} (NIV1984

What a precious prophetic promise for us! Isaiah was describing the time that we are now in. "For no matter how many promises God has made, they are yes in Christ" (2 Cor 1:20). The LORD has given us the great Teacher, the Holy Spirit. No matter the affliction that we are in, no matter the adversity that surrounds us, our Teacher speaks Words of Life into our ears!

Where will your feet take you today? Are you sick in bed? Are you busy at work? Are you uncomfortable at school? Whether you turn to the right or the left, no matter where you go, no matter what you do, there is a voice behind you saying: “This is the way; walk in it.”

Elijah had the spiritual wisdom to discern the voice of God. Not the powerful wind, not the earthquake, and not the fire. No, the voice of the LORD is the gentle whisper! Will we listen for the still small voice today? This voice does not just speak to us at church, this voice speaks to us wherever we are, whatever we are doing, and it speaks Words of Life; it points us to the Way.

I come to the garden alone
While the dew is still on the roses
And the voice I hear falling on my ear
The Son of God discloses.

And He walks with me, and He talks with me,
And He tells me I am His own;
And the joy we share as we tarry there,
None other has ever known.
{In the Garden, C. Austin Miles, 1912}
