1 Corinthians 15:50-58

"She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”
{Matthew 1:21} (NIV1984)

Friend, I wonder this morning if you are in a situation that you would like to be saved from. Usually we think of being saved as being delivered from an undesirable circumstance to a desirable circumstance, or from a harmful situation into a safe situation. This verse that we looked at yesterday and again today, makes it clear that our Lord will save us from something in particular. That is, God through Jesus will take us from an undesirable, harmful situation of being in sin, and place us in a desirable, safe situation of being free of sin.

Every one of us has sin in our lives, and the whole of creation is ruined because of sin. The reason Jesus came was to save us from our sin; not our other circumstances which are hard, painful and undesirable. Many people refuse to give their lives to the Lord Jesus at all, and many people harden their hearts after initially trusting Christ with their lives because He won’t deliver them out of a specific situation.

Friend, it would be beneficial for each of us to consider this truth today. Jesus came to deal with the root issue, of which all of our other issues spring from. Death, sickness, broken relationships, violence, etc, etc all spring from SIN, and will be with us until creation is renewed. Jesus came to save us from sin! He forgives us, cleanses us, and gives us the grace to overcome sin. One day He will take us out of our undesirable situation and place us in the most desirable situation: beside Him in glory. Until that time comes, let us fix our eyes on Him, and allow Him to do what God sent Him to do, to save us from our sins.
