"And I heard a loud voice from the throne
saying, “Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They
will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God."
{Revelation 21:3} (NIV1984)
The Holy
City comes down from heaven to earth. It is a place of holiness, of purity and of
peace, health and joy. Unlike every other city that has ever existed on
earth, there is no death, no deceit, no scams, no strife, no darkness. It is a
place of light, for the blessed and only Ruler who lives in unapproachable
light, provides the light in this City.
Notice the wording; this is not a
description of God coming to dwell with His holy people in an earthly city. No,
it is the actual dwelling of God; descended unto the earth, in order that we
may live where God dwells. It comes from heaven down to earth.
Friend, I want
to be in that City, do you? I want to dwell forever in the very presence of God
with a multitude of people who love God and who have been made completely holy!
Our bodies will be different. No longer bodies of death, but bodies that have
been wonderfully changed; bodies of servants of the Most High God.
Friend, I
want to be in that City, do you? Only those whose names are written
in the Lamb’s book of life will enter. All others will be cast into the lake of
fire. May the words of this old chorus be true of each of us:
There’s a new name written
down in glory,
And it’s mine, O yes, it’s mine!
And the white robed angels sing the story,
“A sinner has come home.”
For there’s a new name written down in glory,
And it’s mine, O yes, it’s mine!
With my sins forgiven I am bound for Heaven,
Never more to roam.
