"Then
I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, “I will
confess my transgressions to the LORD”— and you forgave the guilt of my sin."
{Psalm 32:5} (NIV1984)
David
knows what he is talking about! He knows what it is like to cover up sin and
iniquity. He tried to cover up the pregnancy by bringing Uriah home. He covered
up Uriah’s murder with official letters. No doubt he had to cover up in many
other ways that we know nothing about, simply because one deceit always leads
to another.
Deceiving people is fairly easily, especially for a person in power.
We call them cover ups. Deceiving God is impossible! We can’t cover up before
God. He knows! He sees! He came to David and spoke to him in that still small
voice, told him he had sinned and told him that there was now an issue between
David and God. David for a time ignored God; no doubt he still prayed, and sang
and “worshiped”, but he would not acknowledge his sin before God.
Friend, may
we read Psalm 32 on a regular basis. May we listen and learn from David. Seek
God when He may be found. Don’t be stupid like the mule and horse. Confess and
be forgiven. Draw near to God with a sincere heart, and He will draw near to
us. Then we will know what David knew, and we will be in that place of
blessing.
Blessed
is he
whose transgressions are forgiven,
whose sins are covered.
{Psalm 32:1}
whose transgressions are forgiven,
whose sins are covered.
{Psalm 32:1}
