"And
do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God
is pleased."
{Hebrews 13:16} (NIV1984)
It
costs us to do good to others and it costs us to share with others. Yet does it
really cost us in the long run? I think of the little boy with his fishes and
bread. Why would a little guy with a lunch, even consider sharing it with
adults? Or do you think the disciples took it from him? No; this little guy
was willing to share and the result was a miracle: food for all, including him.
I think of the widow, gathering fuel for her last meal. The prophet Elijah
asked her to share it with him, she did and the result was a miracle: food for
each of them. Neither the little boy nor the widow thought that they would have
enough to eat when they agreed to share their food. But they offered to share
because they wanted to please God.
God is in all things, all things are
sustained by Him, and He places us in situations where He wants us to do good
to others and share with others. These situations are tests; tests of our love
for Him. If we love Him, then we will do good and share with others. May we
this day offer Him a pleasing sacrifice. May we this day share with others and
do good to others.
