"When the day of Pentecost came, they were all
together in one place."
{Acts 2:1} (NIV1984)
Every
single believer on the face of the earth was in that room, all 120 of them!
They had gathered on their Lord’s instruction to wait for the promised Holy
Spirit. This event marks the beginning of the age of the Christian assembly
(the church). What a blessing was poured out on this first assembly (this first
church).
Let us not miss the obvious, by looking intently at the miracle of
Pentecost. The obvious is this: they were to gather together in one place and
wait. The Holy Spirit came to the group as they gathered, not to single people
as they went about their business in the world by themselves. The early
Christians did not miss the obvious; they made it a point of their practice of
the faith, to regularly gather for prayer, worship and the Word. This event
will never be duplicated in this present age, for the simple reason that all
Christians will never be together in one place again until the Lord comes back
and we meet Him in the air.
May we do what our Lord commanded; may we assemble
together regularly in our little group, waiting for the Holy Spirit to bless
us, until the trumpet sounds and all of us are gathered together again in one
place. Come Lord Jesus, come!
If there were only 120 persons present in the room on the day of Pentecost, what happened to the 380 plus individuals who also had seen the risen Jesus?
