1 Thessalonians 2

"Elkanah her husband would say to her, “Hannah, why are you weeping? Why don’t you eat? Why are you downhearted? Don’t I mean more to you than ten sons?”"
{1 Samuel 1:8}  (NIV1984)

Poor husband! Men have no idea of the true state of the situation we are in. We think to ourselves that we are so valuable to our wife. Part of this thinking comes from the abundance of their love to us. They care for us, they love us with a sweet love, their desire is for us (Ge 3:16 ), and so we think we are all they need. We think as Elkanah thought. We think that we are worth more to our wife than her children.
If you doubt me, ask your wife Elkanah’s question. Ask her if you mean more to her than her children. But before you ask her, and hear her answer, be prepared to bless her and encourage her in her motherhood. God made her a mother, and her children are worth more to her than anyone else.
Thank you, our God, for our mothers. Thank you for making them in such a way, that their children mean more to them than anyone else.

  1. Hmm. As a wife, mother, and grandmother, I believe my husband should mean more to me than anyone else. Maybe I'm just weird. :-)
