"We are confident, I say, and would prefer to
be away from the body
and at home with the Lord."
{2 Corinthians 5:8} (NIV1984)
Do we have
the confidence that Paul had? He is confident that God has a heavenly dwelling
already made for him. He is confident that he will possess this heavenly
dwelling at some point in the future. He is confident that being in his earthly
body is a real drag and burden, and is keeping him away from the Lord. He is
confident that he longs to be with the Lord rather than in his body. He is
confident that when he leaves his body, he will be at home with the Lord. He is
confident that this is the sole reason that God made him. He is confident that
he will live every one of his days, hours and minutes here, with for the
purpose of pleasing God.
Paul’s confidence is based solely on the presence of
the Holy Spirit within him. He describes the indwelling of the Holy Spirit as a
guarantee from God Almighty.
Friend, do you know that the Holy Spirit is within
you? Have you heard His inner testimony to your spirit? Have you seen the fruit
of the Holy Spirit in your life? Then friend, be as confident as Paul, for you
have a guarantee from the One who never lies, nor changes His mind.
Oh Heavenly
Father, may we this day have the confidence that Paul had!
