2 Peter 3

"The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance."
{2 Peter 3:9} (NIV1984)

If people scoffed at Christians 2,000 years ago, for believing that the Lord Jesus was coming back soon, in power, then how much more do they scoff today? They ridicule us. The foolishness of Christians, who have made failed predictions of certain dates, has made this ridicule even surer. A person responding to such ridicule, could be tempted to sigh for the Lord’s return today, simply to shut them up. What a blessing this verse is to us today! God is neither slow nor weak. God is patient and His patience means life for many. We long for His coming, and we praise Him for His great patience. If God was not patient with me, I would never have seen salvation. What a glorious God! “The LORD, the LORD, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness…” (Exodus 34:6) God has set a day for fire, just as He set a day for water. They didn’t believe Noah either, but the day came and the water fell, and they were killed. May we this day, follow Noah’s example, and be a holy person, a preacher of righteousness. May God find us faithful when He comes in power to judge this world!
