“if I am delayed, you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God’s household, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth.”
1 Timothy 3:15 (NIV)
Paul has a high view of church – he sees it as the place where the living God dwells, the place that holds truth up. Paul has a high view of those who will be leaders in the house of the living God. His list of qualifications for an elder reflects his view of the church.
A noble task for those who are above reproach;
Which means
faithful to his wife,
temperate,
self-controlled,
respectable,
hospitable,
able to teach,
not given to drunkenness,
not violent but gentle,
not quarrelsome,
not a lover of money.
Did you notice that the money issue made it on Paul’s list? This is not a matter to ignore or pretend away- the love of money has no place in the household of the living God!
Will you pray for our elders on a regular basis?
So much in our church depends on them being above reproach.
