“Great fear seized the whole church and all who heard about these events.”
Acts 5:11 (NIV)
God in His grace gave us Acts 5 to correct any of us who think there are no lessons for the church in the account of Achan recorded in Joshua. Christians in all churches everywhere should be afraid to lie to the Holy Spirit, we should be afraid that we will be caught in the trap of Ananias and Sapphira. Peter describes this trap as having our heart filled by Satan.
This question must be asked those who say that this couple were not Christians; “Why would the church be afraid if these people were not part of the church?” I know that none of us like to be afraid, but it is clear from this chapter that this fear had wonderful fruit.
Let us have more fear of God – not less!
Let us seek today to be filled and guided by the Spirit of truth.
