Psalm 20

David himself, speaking by the Holy Spirit, declared: …”
{Mark 12:36} (NIV 1984)

Lest we think that Psalm 20 is simply a national anthem, sung for the king of Israel as a way of boosting morale for the troops, let us remember that the Lord Jesus taught us that these words are God’s Words. The Holy Spirit is God. We see Him in Genesis, in the desert, with the judges, with the kings, with the prophets, and with the Lord. We see Him with the disciples, in the room on Pentecost, and in Acts with those who believed the Gospel. We see Him in the throne room of God in Revelation, calling with the church for all who will to come, and we see Him interceding for us with groans in Romans chapter 8.

But do we see Him in the Psalms? Do we realize that when we speak aloud the words of Psalm 20, we are speaking aloud the very Words of the Holy Spirit, of God Himself? Friend, this is a blessed truth.

May we realize that the best prayer we could ever pray, is the prayer of God back to God. The best praise we could ever sing, is the praise of God back to God. He will guide us into all truth. May we allow ourselves to be guided by the Spirit as we speak out this Psalm this week.
