Psalm 20

"I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone - for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness."
{1 Timothy 2:1,2} (NIV 1984)

Psalm 20 is a prayer sung by the people for their king. It is a prayer for the LORD to intercede on behalf of the king of their land. The people will rise and fall depending on how their king rises and falls. His decisions, his decrees, his success or failures will have a direct effect on the people’s lives.

Now, we Canadians have a queen, but she is far away and not responsible in any way for our country. What happens to her will not affect us. However we have a parliament, we have a prime minister, we have a premier, and we have mayors. The apostle Paul urges us to pray for them all. In his day and place, the authorities and kings were pagans and were persecuting the Christians. How much more should we pray for our Canadian leaders!

Heavenly Father, thank you for our prime minister, may you bless him, and give him wisdom so that your kingdom will advance in Canada, and your will be done.

  1. This is a good reminder to pray for our prime minister and parliament members. So with this in mind- we will do it this morning!
