Matthew 6:9-13

"But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will
be given to you as well."
{Matthew 6:33} (NIV1984)

Our Lord is the greatest Teacher! A good teacher repeats the main points. A great teacher, not only repeats the main points, but everything they say is consistent in every way with the main point. Our Lord has come to teach us about life. How to live our short lives in a such a way that we triumph over death and obtain eternal life with God. His main point is that our focus should be on God, and not ourselves.

The Beatitudes lay that out beautifully, as they teach us about the characteristics of a person who looks to God for salvation, and not themselves or others. His instruction in prayer does it as well. We are to pray by ourselves and we are to pray that God has His way, that He will be honoured, and then - and only then – pray for what we need for the day.

Friend, did we do this yesterday? What about anytime last week? Did we go secretly in prayer to our God and pray that His name will be lifted up, His will be done, His kingdom come, and then - AFTER - ask Him for what we need? Well, we have today! Let us this day and every day after this seek His kingdom and righteousness in prayer, before we seek what we need.
