"Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the LORD rises upon you."
Isaiah 60:1 (NIV)
Isaiah is looking forward to a future time of blessing. In the book of Ephesians, Paul is looking back on the point of our salvation and says: "For you were once in darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light." (Eph. 5:8). These two verses describe the purpose of our salvation, which is to bring glory to God through our lives and words on this earth during the short time we are alive. Darkness covers the earth, and yet the LORD has shone His light in our hearts; He has appeared and darkness has fled. ARISE and SHINE for the Lord is within you. ARISE and SHINE for you are a child of the LIGHT!
We use to teach the children a song called, "Arky Arky" - sort of a silly song but the chorus is gold: "Rise and shine, and give God the glory glory...children of the Lord". Will we rise up and shine with the light of the glory of God today? Practically speaking, this is will only happen if we on purpose surrender to the Holy Spirit daily; walk in step with Him, agreeing with Him as He leads us and speaks with us. Isaiah has told us that the LORD has put His Spirit within us, and then He tells us to ARISE and SHINE. The decision is ours. What will we do? May we decide to keep the light on. May we trim our lamps. May we decide to live a Spirit filled life today.
