God's design, God's purpose for the temple is clear: PRAYER. Why did He command that a sanctuary be built? Why did He give His Spirit to the craftsmen? Why did He make His people go to the efforts of building and maintaining and then attending the temple? Why would He want humans to build a shadow of the true temple in heaven? Why would He even have a temple in heaven? God desires PRAYER.
God makes it clear to Solomon in 2 Chronicles 7, that the temple is the place where He will watch and listen and be ready to act when His people repent and pray. Isaiah saw an even clearer picture of God's intent, for Isaiah realized that the temple was a house of prayer for all nations, not just Israel. What about us in this age of grace? Do we understand that we are the temple of the Holy God (1 Cor 3:16)? Do we understand that we are to be His house of prayer? It is an amazing truth that as soon as the sun starts to rise, prayers from God's people rise towards Him. In this age of grace, with Christians all over the world, in every time zone, there is 24/7 prayer. Will we join this concert of prayer today? Will we fulfill God's purposes for His earthly temple?
