“I will put my dwelling place among you, and I will not abhor you.”
The LORD is a God who dwells among His people.
Leviticus 26:11 (NIV)
Fruitfulness, peace, safety, freedom and children (lots of them) are the result of this dwelling.
True worship, true rest, reverence of His sanctuary and obedience are the requirements.
The description of what the LORD will do to His people who do not fulfill the requirements of His dwelling among them is dreadful. He will bring about the opposite of the blessing promised. This passage teaches us very clearly and in very succinct language, that the Lord’s dwelling is a very serious thing, it is no light matter to have the Creator of the world, the Holy Holy Holy God living among you in a tabernacle. How much more serious a matter is it to have the Creator of the world, the Holy Holy Holy God living inside our bodies? We get to the end of the chapter and we realize that God remembering His covenant is our only hope.
May we be wise enough to take the warning for us from this passage.
May we confess our sins and rest in our Lord Jesus who is the mediator of a new covenant
