“‘Listen, High Priest Joshua, you and your associates seated before you, who are men symbolic of things to come: I am going to bring my servant, the Branch.”
Zechariah 3:8 (NIV)
This little chapter takes us into the heavenly realms and into the mystery of our ancient enemy accusing us before our God day and night (Rev 12:10). The person being accused is the high priest in Jerusalem at the time of the return from the exile, which means that he is the representative of all God’s people. He needs the LORD to take his side against our accuser, he needs his sin taken away, and he needs a clean turban on his head – for in order to make intercession for the people, he must be Holy to the LORD (Ex 39:30). We are told that this man Joshua and his associates are symbolic of the Branch to come. This is referring to the Messiah, to the Holy One of Israel, to the Anointed One, to Jesus son of Mary who came to save his people from their sin. And in a single day, the day our Saviour died, the LORD removed the sin of the land.
O come let us adore Him
O come let us adore Him.
Our Prophet, our Priest, our King!
