“Flee the evil desires of youth and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.”
2 Timothy 2:22 (NIV)
Each Tuesday at Parkdale a dedicated group of workers gather to run our AWANA program. This is an amazing ministry to train up our children, that takes its name from verse 15 of this chapter. Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed. The dedication demonstrated by parents and other adults to train these children in the Word comes from a desire to see our children become strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.
But this letter was written to a young man, a pastor, and I wonder if we as adults are willing
to join Paul in suffering like a good soldier of Christ.
What about enduring anything for the sake of the elect?
What about avoiding godless chatter?
What about gently instructing opponents?
What about not having anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments?
What about fleeing the evil desires of youth?
Not fleeing to nowhere but fleeing by pursuing the life God has for each of us.
Will we call on the Lord for this life?
Will the words of our lips be lined up with our heart?
