“Come quickly to help me, my LORD and my Savior.”
Psalm 38:22 (NIV)
The heartfelt prayer of a penitent sinner.
Some people scoff at the teaching of 1 Corinthians 6 that when we sin sexually, we sin against our own body. David’s prayer in Psalm 38 describes very clearly the physical results of unconfessed sin. He doesn’t specifically state that the unconfessed sin was sexual, but we do know from Scripture that David was known to have sinned sexually.
David chronicles the effects on his body, it makes me groan inwardly just reading it.
Let us notice that his remedy is to confess his sin. (vs18)
This is the remedy for all of God’s children.
We are right in thinking that confession will not fix our issue, but friend realize that confession is the first step towards having God bring healing into our life and relationships. Without confession we wait in vain for healing.
David confessed, he then mentions his relationship issues, and asks God to come quickly to help.
This is the heartfelt prayer of every penitent sinner.
We confess our sin, we ask Him for healing and we wait for God to heal, in the true sense of the Word wait- the expectant hope that the God who forgives is the God who heals.
