“At the end of your life you will groan, when your flesh and body are spent.”
Proverbs 5:11 (NIV)
In light of our over-sensitivity to gender equality in Canada in 2018, we should state that although Proverbs 5 contains the prayer of a righteous husband, the wisdom here is for both genders, male or female. It is written from a man’s point of view, with a man’s propensity for visual attraction, but the idea that Proverbs 5 blames the woman for the man’s sin is ludicrous. This chapter lays the blame at the man’s feet.
he doesn’t listen to wisdom, for he prefers to hear lips that drip honey
he turns aside from wisdom, and he walks by her door (the opposite of fleeing)
he loses his honour and dignity to someone who is cruel
he loses his wealth to strangers
he gets in trouble with the assembly of God’s people
But worst of all he pays a price in his own body- his flesh and body are spent.
Wisdom says; “whoever sins sexually sins against their own body”
