“Nothing outside a person can defile them by going into them. Rather, it is what comes out of a person that defiles them.”
Our Lord called the disciples “dull” for not understanding this- I wonder what He would call us? We so easily make our worship of Him all about rules, traditions and external activities. He calls this type of worship “hypocrisy”, and He sets aside the external ceremonial rules, such as ceremonial washing, to deal with our real issue. Our real issue is not what goes into our bodies- ie- yeast, or dirt, or bacteria, or pork, or vegetables. Our real issue is what comes out of our hearts! This is what He came to solve for us- He came to create in us a new heart as we surrender every single thing to His loving care. So how is that working for us- how is our heart today? Quite a list that our Lord gives us in vs 21 & 22- if we compare it to Paul’s list in 1 Corinthians 5:11 – we will have the ultimate heart check! The greatest blessing of all is that the great heart Surgeon, our Lord, stands waiting for us to bring these issues to him for healing. Let us go to the great physician today.
