1 Corinthians 15:35-58

"Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain."
{1 Corinthians 15:58} (NIV)

I have known some people that won’t let anything move them. Once they have their minds set on something, you can’t get them off it. Come to think of it, sometimes Wanda tells me that I am like that. Thankfully Paul is talking about faith, not stubbornness or bullheadedness.

Paul has just laid out a case for belief in the resurrection, and now tells us to continue to believe in the resurrection, not to let anyone cause us to stop believing. Then he tells us to continue to work for the Lord. Keep working. Keep on keeping on. There is no retirement in the kingdom of God; no age at which we are put on the shelf.

Paul is encouraging us to make the kingdom of God our full time job. He isn’t writing to pastors or missionaries, he is writing to everyone. Why would someone who has a job, or is retired make the kingdom of God their full time work? They won’t, unless they believe in the resurrection. Unless they believe that the Lord is alive and will come back in a MOMENT. If we believe that, then we will throw ourselves into God’s work, wanting Him to be pleased with us when He appears.

Friend, are you doing something for God that seems like a chore? Like labour? Keep it up, keep on keeping on, for He is coming back.
