1 Corinthians 15:35-57

"The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law."
{1 Corinthians 15:56} (NIV)

Death eats us up. It swallows us all and there is no escape. None can escape. Paul explains the relationship between death, sin and the law in this one sentence. Just as a person who feels the sting as a poisonous snake bites their heel, they know that death awaits them. So each of us when we recognize sin in our lives, know that death awaits us.

What makes sin so powerful that it brings death? The Law given by God, written in stone. Our Lord told us that until heaven and earth pass away, not one letter will disappear from the Law. This Law gives sin the ability to produce death. This truth has been declared by God over and over again, starting with Adam, then Cain and then Israel and then the world.
But another truth, “He gives us the victory through the Lord Jesus Christ” has been declared! Our Lord not only obeyed the entire Law, He fulfilled the Law. Our Lord died in our place as a sacrifice for our sin. Our Lord rose from the grave because the grave couldn’t hold Him! Sin had no power over our Lord, and therefore death had no power!

Friend, are you united with the Lord Jesus Christ? Is Christ in you and are you in Christ? If we are, then the grave has no power, no hold over us! We will be victorious over death. May we be sure that we are in Christ this day.
