1 Corinthians 15:35-44

"But someone will ask, “How are the dead raised? With what kind of body will they come?”
{1 Corinthians 15:36} (NIV)

This is a question that I have thought about and that I have discussed with friends. So I wince when I see Paul call the question foolish. However I ask the question while believing in the resurrection and these people ask the question while denying the truth of the resurrection.

Paul’s answer to this demand for details before the granting of belief is most practical and most beautiful. Practically, he compares us to a seed. A seed that is buried, dies and then grows into something magnificent, compared to what was buried. Then he makes the observation that there are many different types of bodies, all made in their own way by our Creator God. Then he pens the most beautiful description of a resurrected body ever written:

The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable;
 it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory;
it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power;
it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body.

To read this aloud, at the grave of a Christian, a true believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, will stir your spirit and grow your faith like no other passage. We are laid in the grave in weakness but we will come up in power! Praise God for the truth of the resurrection!
